Commonwealth Games: Agboro, Uweh miss out on weightlifting medals

Gururaja, an employee of the Indian Air Force, came to prominence when he won a Gold at the 2016 Commonwealth senior weightlifting Championships in Penang, Malaysia.

Gururaja lifted 111 kg in snatch and 138 kg in clean and jerk to power his way to the silver medal at Gold Coast in Brisbane, Australia.

And there was joy in the women's team sprint final, as Stephanie Morton and Kaarle McCulloch set a Games record and beat the Kiwis.

Uganda suffered a 64-51 defeat against New Zealand's Silver Ferns but clearly registered an improvement - having lost to the four-time World Cup winners and two-time Commonwealth Gold medalists 76-33 at the Allphones Arena in Sydney three years ago.

Omar was one of Ghana's brightest hopes from a 71-athlete contingent after he won the only medal (a bronze) at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

In Table Tennis as well, India made a winning start by beating Sri Lanka.

"I am in the shape of my life and am gutted to miss out on the opportunity to show what I can do", Proud said.

"I heard the roar for Australia as we came into the stadium last night and not being able to feel that for myself in the individual events is awful".
