Sinclair Executive Chairman Lashes Out at Print Media Calling It 'Meaningless Dribble'

Those concerns heightened as Trump sided with Sinclair Monday morning.

President Donald Trump criticized the major television networks on Tuesday as "fakers".

A Boise news station is among Sinclair Broadcast Group-owned channels under scrutiny after reporters across the country read from a prepared script criticizing "fake" news stories and other mainstream media.

Sinclair, already the biggest TV news broadcaster in the USA, has 193 television stations and a deal to acquire an additional 42 from Tribune Media, which owns outlets KTLA in Los Angeles, WPIX in NY and WGN in Chicago.

News anchors who work for Sinclair Broadcast Group stations throughout the country have recorded the same promotional announcement that warns viewers about the perils of "fake news".

"It sickens me the way this company is encroaching upon trusted news brands in rural markets", an investigative reporter at Sinclair said.

Sinclair also has pushed to ease regulation of the broadcast industry and approve its plan to buy Tribune Media, a move that would dramatically increase the company's reach.

The company, which owns almost 200 stations in the US, has reportedly been forcing its affiliates to run conservative commentary segments, including those by former advisers of President Donald Trump. The deal, which is still seeking approval from the FCC and Justice Dept., would give Sinclair the largest reach of any TV network in the nation, exceeding the current 39 percent ownership cap.

Holland is just one of approximately 200 anchors that read the script, according to NPR. "That's why a lot of people have come to call Sinclair "Trump TV"... it's sort of an unofficial propaganda outlet for the president". Unfortunately, some members of the national media are using their platforms to push their own personal bias and agenda to control "exactly what people think".

Journalists in local USA markets are chafing at the company's requirements, including a new promotional campaign that echoes President Donald Trump's anti-media rhetoric.

Sinclair again has shown how corporate control of local news can be unsafe for democracy.

Scott Livingston, Sinclair's senior vice president of news, pushed back against the negative criticism.

This group, forcing their own agenda through local news stations, is far more unsafe than the threat of fake news, which these stations have been spreading so rapidly. It also describes stations owned by Sinclair, a conservative-leaning company that mandates right-leaning programs run, as "neither politically 'left nor right'". It is now attempting to complete the sale of several dozen Tribune-owned television stations.

Sinclair is in the process of purchasing Tribune Media for $3.9 billion. Sinclair employs Boris Ephshteyn, a former Trump aide, as its chief political analyst. It's far greater than the percentage of Americans who they get their news through newspapers (18%), radio (25%), social media (20%) and even from news websites (33%).
