Myanmar Minister to Visit Rohingya Camps as Bangladesh Seeks Refugees' Return

The two countries reached a deal in November to begin repatriation within two months, but it has not begun, with stateless Rohingya, who face restrictions on their movements in Myanmar, still arriving in Bangladesh.

A Myanmar court also has vowed to dismiss a case in opposition to two Reuters journalists following the colleagues' attorneys insisted a week which the signs will not encourage the costs.

The authorities told Reuters in February the military opened an internal investigation independently and that it is unrelated to the Reuters reporters who are accused of obtaining unrelated secret government papers.

The two had worked on Reuters' coverage of the crisis in Rakhine, where security forces' response to a Muslim insurgents' attack have driven almost 700,000 Rohingya to neighbouring Bangladesh.

Myanmar has rejected accusations of ethnic cleansing in its western state of Rakhine, saying its security forces launched a legitimate counter-insurgency operation on August 25 in response to Rohingya militant attacks.

Myanmar has vehemently denied U.S. and United Nations allegations of ethnic cleansing In the study, 24 per cent of children were deemed to have acute malnutrition, as indicated by their height, weight and arm circumference, putting them at increased risk of illness, starvation and death.

"Four officers have been purged (from the army) and given a 10 year prison sentence with hard labour. Three soldiers of other rank were demoted to the rank of "private", permanently dismissed from the military and sentenced to 10 years with hard labor at a prison in a remote area", read the military statement.

Win Myat Aye was "meeting officials at the camps", local police chief Abul Khaer told Agence France-Presse, adding that International Organization for Migration representatives were involved in the talks.

The Myanmar government has acknowledged the murders, but it has repeatedly denied global accusations of ethnic cleansing and genocide against the Rohingya.

Rohingya leaders in the camps said they would welcome the opportunity to meet the minister in person.

Buddhist villagers reported no attack by a large number of insurgents on security forces in Inn Din.

A court in Yangon has been holding preliminary hearings since January to decide whether the two Reuters reporters will be charged under the colonial-era Official Secrets Act, which carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison.

Malnutrition and anemia far exceed internationally established emergency levels among ethnic minority Rohingya children who have fled to refugee camps in Bangladesh, US researchers warned on Tuesday.
