Viral Starbucks arrest causes controversy

The Latest Starbucks plans training on “unconscious bias.”

Coffee chain Starbucks has apologised after two black men were arrested while waiting for a friend at one of their shops in the USA city of Philadelphia.

He said the officers "did absolutely nothing wrong" and were professional in their conduct toward the two men but "got the opposite back".

About 700 of the department's 6,300 officers are equipped with body cameras, he added, but the officers involved were not wearing them. "Does anybody else think this is ridiculous?" he asks other cafe patrons. She added that Yaffe runs a real estate devlopment company and the three had scheduled a meeting at the store to consider avenues for investment.

Protesters gathered outside the Center City Starbucks on Sunday in solidarity with the two men arrested. However, when they refused to do so, they were arrested "without incident". When the friend arrived, a white male, he questioned the officers about what the men had done.

Ross said the men were given several chances to leave, but they kept refusing.

After the arrests, Starbucks decided not to press charges and the Philadelphia District Attorney also declined to pursue a case against the two men, who have since reportedly retained attorneys.

The video, however, appears to show nothing but overreaction, while the men remain completely calm.

During the viral clip, a man named Andrew Yaffe arrives to tell police that the two men were waiting for him.

Starbucks has launched its own investigation into its practices that led to this "bad outcome", Johnson said.

Additional details are still coming about the incident in which a Starbucks manager called law enforcement officials on two black men who had not placed an order. "We asked them to leave the first time".

After the arrest, the police were also being criticized for their handling of the situation. "The two young men politely asked why they were being asked to leave and were not given a reason other than that they hadn't bought something". "They followed policy. They did what they were supposed to do". "They were called there, for a service, and that service had to do with quelling a disturbance, a disturbance that had to do with trespassing". Ross never explains. He just continues, "These two males refused to leave, and the police were called". The incident took place on Thursday but went viral after video showed the arrests this weekend.

Still, in his account, the police commissioner' said the officers' actions were justified.

Multiple witnesses recorded the incident on cellphones.

The police department of Philadelphia was condemned as well.

As the retweets of the video multiplied, the local police commissioner Richard Ross insisted his officers had simply performed their duty. Starbucks' CEO is apologizing, but many are still calling on the company to change its policies. She said it was the manager at the Starbucks who called the police, and that her clients weren't doing anything wrong.

Meanwhile, Johnson said he plans on traveling to Philadelphia. The research group identifies negative and positive media coverage by analyzing more than 20 million news and blog sources in real-time.
