Southwest Airlines Co. was sued by a passenger who witnessed the "horror" when an exploding engine part shattered a cabin window 20 minutes into a flight from New York-LaGuardia airport. "We send our prayers to her husband and two children, and they grieve the loss of a loving wife and mother".

Trump said, "She must have been a fantastic woman".

"The courage it took for her to control that situation and really save everyone on board is really just unbelievable", one passenger said.

Several other passengers suffered injuries described by authorities as minor. She waved off accolades, saying it sometimes was easier to be the pilot rather than a passenger.

Flight 1380 was en route from NY to Dallas when its left engine suddenly blew apart, sending shrapnel through a window and killing a 43-year-old New Mexico woman.

The president went on to talk about Tammie Jo Shultz, the pilot who was able to land the plane safely despite the technical failures.

Five passengers were also invited to the oval office including Tim McGinty, firefighter Andrew Needum and nurse Peggy Phillips, who all did their best to save Riordan's life. Shults, a former fighter pilot with the Navy, was praised for how she handled the hard situation April 17th, managing to safely land the plane.
