Scott Arfield has become Steven Gerrard's first signing as Rangers manager after joining on a four-year deal from Burnley.

Arfield made a decision to leave Burnley as his contract came to an end with the prospect of a new challenge under England and Liverpool legend Gerrard too tempting to turn down.

He has signed a deal until 2022 with the Ibrox club, becoming the first arrival of the Steven Gerrard regime, and the new Gers manager was pleased to complete his first piece of business.

"I'm going with the club's support and the club's backing - and I'm really excited to get started".

"Hopefully I can add a lot to the team, hopefully silverware and take us back to success".

"We go up to Glasgow and we will give it our best".

The midfielder, who will be out of contract with Burnley at the end of the season, flew into the city on Monday morning and will be officially announced as a Rangers player at a news conference at midday.

"I go this time with the supporters' blessing and everyone within the club's blessing because they see the opportunity, they see the size of Glasgow Rangers and how hard it would have been where I was to turn down".

Cardiff Metropolis are on the path of Rangers attacking midfielder Josh Windass as they put together for a return to the English Premier League.

Gerrard is seeking to improve the Rangers squad he inherited from former club boss Graeme Murty and clearly sees midfielder Arfield as the first missing piece in the pursuit of closing the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership with arch-rivals Celtic.
