What you need to know about Tuesday's Nebraska primary election

Pennsylvania is a must-win state for Democrats if they want to take back the House, CBS Pittsburgh money and politics editor Jon Delano told CBSN Tuesday.

Ten Democrats are vying to win the new heavily Democratic 5th District and succeed the now-resigned Republican Rep. Patrick Meehan in what had been viewed as one of the most gerrymandered districts in the country.

Polls are open from 7 a.m.to 8 p.m.

A Homeland Security official has met with Pennsylvania officials to discuss election security as voters choose Republican challengers to Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf and U.S. Sen. In 2016, Trump became the first Republican presidential nominee to win the state in 28 years. After redistricting, GOP Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick's 1st District shifted from territory that President Trump narrowly carried to an area that Hillary Clinton won by 2 points, giving Democrats a prime pickup opportunity.

A former health care systems consultant in Pennsylvania's hotly contested Republican primary for governor says he's feeling "very good" and is getting ready for what he predicts will be a victory party.

Voters sign in to cast their ballot in the Pennsylvania primary at a polling place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S., April 26, 2016.

The results of Tuesday's closely watched primary election set up fights for control of Congress and the Pennsylvania Governor's Mansion that will play out on a grand and expensive scale this fall. Votes will be held in Idaho, Nebraska and OR, but it is in Pennsylvania, where Democrats are looking to make major inroads in November, where the attention will be focused. Liberal champion Bernie Sanders and the Congressional Black Caucus endorsed Greg Edwards, while the Democratic women's group EMILY's List was behind the eventual victor, Wild. Sanders also picked sides in an Allentown-area district that Democrats are aiming to pick up in November.

Navy veteran Rachel Reddick's profile checks numerous candidate attributes Democrats have tried to find - young, female and military experience.

A familiar name - Rick Saccone, the former state lawmaker who lost to Lamb in March - is on the ballot in Pennsylvania's 14th District. Lamb has opted to run in a different district near Pittsburgh that is less conservative.

Scanlon will face Republican candidate Pearl Kim in November, in what is likely to be an easy Democratic victory. Nebraska voters on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, will pick U.S. Senate nominees for both parties out of crowded fields of candidates who hope to claim the seat held by incumbent Fischer. Robert Casey awaits a possible showdown with Barletta.

In the phone message he recorded, Trump called Casey the "hand-picked guy" of Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., using a strategy Republicans have deployed in other states to tie candidates to party leaders. "He was with me early on, before everyone else started jumping on board".

Lou Barletta, a congressman from Luzerne County, who made a reputation on unflinching opposition to illegal immigrants and became an early supporter of Mr. Trump, won the Republican nomination to challenge Senator Bob Casey Jr., a mild-mannered politician who has become a relentless critic of Mr. Trump.

Pennsylvania state senator and waste-hauling millionaire Scott Wagner is the victor of the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf.

Democratic discord in at least two contests could diminish the party's hopes come November.

They were Nina Ahmad, a former deputy mayor under Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney; Chester County Commissioner Kathi Cozzone; Montgomery County activist Ray Sosa; and John Fetterman, who is something of a national media darling for his efforts to revive the down-on-its-luck steel town of Braddock, where he is mayor. It's one of several races where left-wing candidates are trying to replace incumbent Democrats; in Pittsburgh, two longtime lawmakers are being challenged by self-identified Democratic Socialists.

Lt. Gov. Brad Little is seeking the GOP nomination, with Otter's endorsement, while Tommy Ahlquist, an emergency room doctor turned developer, hopes his outsider status carries him as it did IN businessman Mike Braun IN last week's GOP Senate primary. He says he's seen people are hurting around the state and he wants to help Pennsylvanians realize their potential.

Stack, a former Philadelphia state senator, has had a chilly relationship with Wolf in their first term together.

Meanwhile, Chrissy Houlahan is the uncontested Democratic nominee for another suburban Philadelphia seat where she's heavily favored in November. They will find out who their Democratic opponents will be after Tuesday's primary.

Social worker and political newcomer Kara Eastman has won the Democratic nomination for Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District. The victor will face Rep. Don Bacon, R.
