Amazon Prime Members Are Getting New Discounts at Whole Foods

Whole Foods has debuted a loyalty program that offers special discounts to Amazon Prime customers. "Well they are, if they only buy the handful of good deals on the card and nothing else", said David Livingston of DJL Research, a grocery industry market research firm. They'll also get even deeper discounts on unique merchandise, such as 50 percent off magic mushroom powder and $10 off per pound of sustainably sourced, wild-caught halibut steaks.

"This new Prime benefit at Whole Foods market is a ideal pairing of healthy and delicious food at even more affordable prices", said Cam Sibay, Vice president, Amazon prime. Amazon has launched free two-hour delivery from Whole Foods through its Prime Now service in 10 cities, has Amazon lockers for package pick up at Whole Foods, and is selling Amazon products in stores.

Still, an increasing number of people find the benefits of membership outweigh the costs. Pushing special savings through Prime is a way to reintroduce the Prime customer to Whole Foods, Ladd said. These newly initiated perks to gain customer attraction has the potential to make Whole Foods more affordable than ordinary, regular grocers for a population of about 8 million of its consumers who already are subscribers of Amazon Prime, according to the analysts of Morgan Stanley.

The company announced on Wednesday that it's rolling out additional deals and discounts for members of its subscription service at the high-end grocer, which it acquired a year ago. Amazon cut prices on many items at Whole Foods upon completing the acquisition previous year, as part of its broader push into physical retail stores.

"There have been gradual steps towards integrating Amazon and Whole Foods". Amazon Prime members can access the exclusive deals by scanning the Whole Foods Market app at checkout.
