According to multiple reports, the Milwaukee Bucks have hired Mike Budenholzer to become the team's new head coach.

Budenholzer and the Atlanta Hawks parted ways this offseason.

Also in the running for the job was Spurs assistant Becky Hammon who would be the first female head coach in National Basketball Association history if she were to be hired by a team.

It was reported in early May that Budenholzer was on the list of coaching candidates for the Bucks, along with former Grizzlies coach David Fizdale, former Cavaliers coach David Blatt, Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon and others. There were quite a few other names mentioned as coaches of interest for the Bucks, but Budenholzer is one of the most underrated head coaches in the National Basketball Association.

Budenholzer met with team ownership Tuesday, and prior to Wednesday's report, had been considered a favorite for the job.

The Milwaukee Bucks have found their man.

Before the split, the Hawks gave Budenholzer permission to speak with the Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks for their coaching openings. He'll take over for former interim head coach Joe Prunty who succeeded Jason Kidd after the team's rough start during the 2017-18 season. Atlanta made the playoffs in four of his first five seasons as head coach. Unfortunately, players like Al Horford, Jeff Teague, and Paul Millsap ended up going elsewhere and the Hawks were one of the worst teams in the National Basketball Association in 2017-18.

Budenholzer won his coach of the year award after a 60-victory regular season and a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2016.

Budenholzer spent 17 seasons working as an assistant with San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich.
