Baby girl dies in hot Nashville car after dad 'forgets about her'

His wife, Jenny Barker, didn't find out that anything was wrong until she went to pick up both of her children from the daycare, only to find out that Katera had never been there.

News outlets cite a release from Metro Nashville police saying the adoptive father, Matt Barker, "reportedly forgot" about Katera Barker after dropping off her 5-year-old sibling at day care on Wednesday.

The girl's mother is reported to have found the baby in the vehicle seat in the pickup truck, outside their home, ABC reports.

The truck that the 1-year-old girl was found in. The girl was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Jenny Barker then telephoned her husband and came to the realization that Katera, whom the couple had adopted recently, was still in the pickup truck. A police investigation is ongoing. There have been 30 children who have died since 1990.

Records indicated that temperatures in Nashville reached 89 degrees on the day in question-meaning temperatures inside the truck could've reached 120 degrees.

Following the hot-car death in Tennessee, NewsChannel 5 reported that the child was recently adopted by the Barkers and celebrated her 1st birthday with them.

Matt Barker flew back to Nashville, arriving late Wednesday, police said.
