Mississauga explosion: more than a dozen injured in Canada restaurant blast

"We're looking to speak to the individuals seen fleeing the area and looking for the public's assistance in identifying them", Peel Regional Police Constable Iryna Yashnyk told media gathered at the scene.

A bombing at an Indian restaurant in Mississauga injured 15 people Thursday night. Several injured were taken to local hospital and 3 in critical condition were taken to a Toronto Trauma Centre. We know this is an extremely hard time for them. A police canine unit and SWAT team tried to track them, "but we didn't come up with anybody", he said.

Police said there were no immediate indications that the explosion late Thursday at the Bombay Bhel restaurant was a hate crime or had possible terrorist links. "We want to take our time, make sure we're very methodical in it". Apart from pictures of the suspected perpetrators, they published a detailed description of the men's outfits.

She said that there were also numerous children under the age of 10 inside the restaurant, all of whom escaped injury.

"One of the men being hunted by police has been described as being 5'10" to 6′ tall, stocky and in his mid-20s. Wearing dark blue jeans, a dark zip-up hoodie and a baseball cap with a light grey peak. Both men had their faces covered, according to police.

It was not immediately known as how many people were inside the restaurant when the incident took place.

Other victims were treated for minor injuries after the blast at the popular Bombay Bhel restaurant in a strip mall that is surrounded by houses, grassy fields, and condo towers under construction.

The cause of the explosion is under probe.

Evans said there was a "considerable amount" of damage to the restaurant.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.

Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie said she was thankful there were no fatalities.

"This is certainly not anything you would expect to happen in Mississauga, not my Mississauga".

Evans said there were two separate family parties happening at the time.

"We are working closely with the police and the Mississauga authorities".

Shortly before the blast, surveillance footage captured two men in hoodies entering Bombay Bhel restaurant. Police have cordoned off two other areas after locating footprints in a nearby field and gloves in a driveway.

The motive for the attack is unknown.
