North Korea still wants to talk to US'at any time despite Trump cancelling meeting

Trump said he was going to remain after his speech to shake the hand of each of the 1,042 members of the graduating class. He said Japan had been in close contact with Washington ahead of the summit that had been scheduled for June 12.

"They very much want to do it, we'd like to do it", he said.

Earlier on Twitter, Trump had noted "very good news to receive the warm and productive statement from North Korea".

But the summit is now unlikely to go ahead after US President Donald Trump called it off because of North Korea's "tremendous anger and open hostility".

Kim said that the North remains open to talks with the U.S.

North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye Gwan, said: "We have inwardly highly appreciated President Trump for having made the bold decision, which any other USA presidents dared not, and made efforts for such a crucial event as the summit". "Only time (and talent) will tell!".

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis says there is "possibly some good news" about a U.S.

The president's surprise exit from the planned talks on Thursday had capped weeks of high-stakes brinkmanship between the two unpredictable leaders over nuclear negotiating terms for their unprecedented sit-down.

The next day, North Korea dismantles a nuclear test site in an apparent goodwill gesture.

The White House has repeatedly offered mixed messages.

A White House official quoted by Reuters news agency described the comments about Mr Pence as the "last straw". It was a very nice statement they put out.

Following years of tensions, South Korea's hosting of the Winter Olympics in February 2018 gives the neighbors a window to reopen communications, ushering in a spectacular Korean detente. CBS News correspondent Ben Tracy was the only USA broadcast network correspondent to witness it, among a small group of worldwide journalists.

The following month, Mr Trump threatens "fire and fury" if Pyongyang continues to threaten America, kicking off months of saber-rattling that set the world on edge.

The Russian president said Friday that "a full denuclearization of North Korea" should involve giving "North Korea a guarantee of their sovereignty and inviolability".

But Pyongyang has vowed it will never give up its nuclear deterrent until it feels safe from what it terms U.S. aggression.

"Democrats are so obviously rooting against us in our negotiations with North Korea".

The North Koreans also claim no radiation leaked during the explosions, and that they have never detected radiation at the site.

FILE - President Donald Trump meets with South Korean President Moon Jae-In in the Oval Office of the White House, May 22, 2018, in Washington. Trump also appears to still want the summit to go through at some point. He unveiled the date and the time with characteristic showmanship.

Wrote Trump: "If you change your mind having to do with this most important summit, please do not hesitate to call me or write".

Mr. Trump signaled the shift on Thursday, warning of US nuclear and military superiority both in a letter to Mr. Kim and in public remarks.

Kim Kye Gwan said North Korea's recent criticisms of certain USA officials had been a reaction to unbridled American rhetoric, and that the current antagonism showed "the urgent necessity" for the summit. But it was in his name the North issued its response to Trump's decision Friday.

"We got a lot of dial tones, Senator", he told committee chairman Bob Corker. The White House even unveiled a commemorative coin with the profiles of Trump and Kim to herald the "peace talks".
