The facilities will be used to further bolster the company's R&D footprint on a global scale, with the firm set to work closely with esteemed institutions and educational leaders in the way of developing state of the art AI-powered technologies.

The company has also vowed that it would increase the number of AI researchers at Samsung Research to 1,000 globally.

'Samsung has a long history of pursuing innovation and we are excited to be bringing that same passion and technology leadership to AI, ' claimed Hyun-suk Kim, president and head of Samsung Research, at the opening ceremony of the Samsung AI Centre - Cambridge.

Cho added: "In this new world of connected devices and services based on AI, Samsung's vision is to help people do their jobs and live their lives better".

In addition to its AI centers in Seoul and Silicon Valley, both having opened within the last few months, the new research center in Moscow will join Samsung's global network of AI centers, five in total. 'This new Centre signifies our commitment to the advancement of AI, Blake claims. In Toronto, the AI centre will supplement its research in core AI technologies by working with universities in Canada. The Cambridge AI centre will be led by Andrew Blake, previously Director of Microsoft's Cambridge Laboratory, and will focus on exploring human behaviour in areas such as emotion recognition and user-centric communication.

The Moscow centre will capitalize on Russia's expertise in fundamental sciences such as mathematics and physics, the company said. These include AI that is: "user-centric", realizing personalization through a multi-modal interface; "always learning", through continuous self-learning from data; "always there", as an ambient service; "always helpful", with minimization of user intervention and response to requests; and "always safe", ensuring user safety and privacy.

Last year, Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT), a separate research that focuses on long-term research, opened an AI lab in Montreal, Canada.
