Apple blocks Steam Link from App Store according to Valve

Steam Link Isn’t Coming to iPad and iPhone

According to the statement, Apple initially approved the app for release. But Tim Cook's company has since stripped that approval and denied Steam Link from appearing in the iOS App Store.

Apple approved Steam Link for the App Store on May 7, only to reject it a couple of days later. They "hope Apple will reconsider in the future", which rather makes the rejection sound like a done deal; with the initial rejection and the appeal rejection, it's not looking likely that the Steam Link iOS app will see the light of day. The app itself was released for Android earlier this week, but no mention was made of the iOS version. That means iPhone and iPad users won't be able to install Valve's game streaming app on their devices.

Steam Link certainly turned some heads when it was announced, giving gamers the ability to play their Steam games right from their smartphones or tablets.

Valve is "clearly disappointed" about the decision, as the Steam Link iOS team "spent many hours on this project and the approval process".

At the moment, it's not clear what Apple's "business conflicts" are, though we have contacted Apple for comment and will update this piece if and when we hear back. It's plausible this functionality ran afoul of Apple's guidelines, which require a 30-percent revenue share for any "in-app purchases". Its reason: business conflicts with app guidelines. But, while Apple does allow remote desktop apps in its App Store, Valve's won't be allowed. This isn't the first time something like this has happened when it comes to controversial apps on Apple's App Store.

For now, I'm quite enjoying the app on my Android phone, and if you want to try something similar and have an Nvidia GPU in your PC, you can download the Moonlight app that does nearly the exact same thing and is Apple approved.
