Milwaukee Police Department releases body-worn camera video showing the arrest of NBA player Sterling Brown

While I am deeply disturbed and appalled with the blatant abuse of power by the Milwaukee Police officers involved in the Sterling Brown incident, I can not say that I am surprised.

"I find it disturbing that an officer would incite an argument over a parking citation", Mr Royal said. He is the party confronted, not the one doing the confronting. An officer can then be heard yelling, "Taser!" The officer said he "repeatedly" asked Brown to step back but Brown refused.

Video of the early morning January 26 incident outside a Walgreens shows a routine stop escalating into a testy confrontation in a matter of seconds.

The two then begin arguing about the officer having asked Brown to "back up" and whether there was contact between them.

The conversation between the officer and Brown is testy as they wait for additional squad cars to show up.

He was a high school stand-out at Proviso East.

It all started after Brown had allegedly parked a Mercedes across multiple parking spaces when cops approached him. Brown keeps the volume of his voice level even as his frustration is obvious.

"Sorry I don't follow the Bucks, so I didn't recognize you". "You touched me first". On what? For what? He did not say which officers were disciplined or how they were disciplined. Brown uses his key fob to silence it.

"Hold on. I've got stuff in my hands", Brown said. "Taser! Taser!" and Brown was on the ground groaning in pain. Someone asks if they should use a Taser. Before that game Brown told reporters the situation was "being handled". That part of the video may be the most hard to understand.

"And now he's like, 'I'm a Bucks player, blah, blah, blah". "I remember that name".

He accuses Brown of "being all badass with me" to which Brown replies "I ain't got no problem". Brown replies, "Don't touch me". Later, that same officer mocks Brown while talking to a colleague about what happened, saying he thought Brown "was being an ass" and "trying to hide something".

On Wednesday, the Milwaukee community saw body camera footage from an altercation between an National Basketball Association player and Milwaukee police. A senior police official visited a black church congregation on Sunday to address the situation and plead for aid in keeping the peace. ESPN has requested that footage but, it was not released Wednesday. Brown has retained lawyer Mark Thomsen to file a federal civil rights lawsuit.

We can not allow or enable this kind of despicable behavior. In 2016, 23-year-old Sylville Smith was fatally shot by a police officer and riots ensued. "I was just being smart".

"The men and women of the Milwaukee Police Department are dedicated to protecting and serving the citizens of Milwaukee". Of course, the newly released video contradicted that.

It's a carefully calibrated message and a slick bit of PR work, to be sure. After Garner was killed in 2014 when police officers held him in a headlock in NY, players (including then-Bulls guard Derrick Rose) wore shirts that read "I Can't Breathe". On Tuesday, the department released a three-minute video featuring Morales called, "A Message to the Community".

Brown, for his part, is suing the city and the police over the affair.

Four months after police tased and arrested Milwaukee Bucks rookie Sterling Brown, the public is seeing and hearing the encounter from police body cameras.
