California Primary Rule May Hurt Democrats' Bid To Unseat GOP's Rohrabacher

California is crucial to the Democrats' hopes of taking back the House of Representatives.

Four of those seats are in the former Republican stronghold of Orange County.

There are two Republicans right now who are looking like they're in a pretty good spot to advance to the top two.

It also meant Republicans wouldn't have their own political problems having to defend "no" votes on Democratic amendments heading to November. But most controversial is his long support for better relations with Russian Federation and his meetings with close associates of Vladimir Putin. "We have seen a large number of new and re-registrations, and a high rate of those voters are selecting "No Party Preference" - a rate of growth outpacing both Democrats and Republicans".

"I've always worked very well with Republicans", said Davis. But the most recent poll revealed that only 59 percent of US Republican voters believe it is important for Trump to provide moral leadership for the country.

Here's why Becker's anxious. Proposition 14 was created to consolidate multiple ballots into one for statewide offices, legislative offices, and candidates for U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. Then it's really up for grabs because there's a question of whether Republicans will hang out of the race, whether they'll try and go for a more moderate candidate or what will happen there. He's not concerned about being perceived as an anti-Trump candidate, either.

That's why Michael Kotick dropped out, though his name is still on the ballot. Senate Minority Leader Dan Blue, who referenced Mao and Khrushchev on the Senate floor Wednesday, said this budget, "says oink, oink, oink in a way we haven't seen in a long time".

What made Kotick's decision so urgent was that, at the last minute, another Republican jumped into the race - Scott Baugh, a former Republican leader in the state Assembly and former chair of the Orange County Republican Party. Regardless, if one doesn't count the six "clear" flukes, the Democrats' actual gain was 24 seats, which would barely be enough for them to win the House today. Should they boost more moderate candidates who could win over crossover voters? On the Democratic side, the race evolved into a battle between Harley Rouda, a businessman backed by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and Hans Keirstead, a neuroscientist who developed innovative treatments for late-stage cancers and spinal cord injuries. He's pushed her to the left on some issues and he almost nabbed the endorsement from the California Democratic Party at the convention in February. But that hasn't helped clarify anything. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the House Majority PAC have hammered Baugh with negative ads to ensure that Rouda slides into second place.

Democrats Shanel Robinson and Sara Sooy will be listed on the ballot seeking their party's nomination for Somerset County Freeholders, as will Republican candidates Patrick Scaglione and Mark Caliguire, both incumbent freeholders. But since everyone competes on the same ballot, Democrats are attacking Republicans too.

Raphael Sonenshein, the executive director of the Pat Brown Institute for Public Affairs at California State University Los Angeles, says everyone's now trying to figure out how to game the system, including voters. I think it's a great issue, not a bad issue. While some Republicans are ignoring Trump and some have left the party altogether, others are settling on the argument of the "bull in the china shop" analogy.

He said in next year's session, legislators should agree to "roll up our sleeves" and work together to focus on infrastructure, education and other big-picture issues, particularly in rural areas.

At the close of regular registration, 15 days before the June primary, there were 4,844,803 no-party-preference voters, according to Political Data Inc., compared with 4,771,984 Republicans. The state continues to be more Latino, more Asian, more liberal and that has changed the dynamics in every race from governor on down to Congress.

The GOP leader dismissed angry comments about the budget being rushed through the Republican controlled General Assembly and closed to amendments during floor debates.
