Liverpool agree to sign Fekir from Lyon

Liverpool transfer news Nabil Fekir has been tipped to head to Anfield

Liverpool's pursuit of the France global involves dealing with Aulas, who is known to be an extremely tough negotiator, and said on Thursday in quotes published on Lyon's website that no deal for Fekir will be completed before or during the World Cup, in which the versatile attacking midfielder will be appearing.

With rumours that Fekir would be joining Liverpool within 24 hours doing the rounds on Thursday morning, it came as no surprise that later in the day, all the major British journalists were claiming a fee had been agreed.

"Olympique Lyonnais categorically denies the false information disseminated by many media outlets about the transfer of Nabil Fekir to Liverpool".

Hunter specified the deal will be worth an initial €55 million (£48.3 million) plus an additional €5 million (£4.3 million) in add-ons, recalling that Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas had said on Thursday talks were "at a standstill".

"In this period of transfers when the slightest rumour is often presented as reality, Lyon would like to underline that only information released on the club's website is reliable", the club said in a statement.

"I do not think that there will be changes before [the World Cup]".

How could Liverpool line up in 2018/19 if they sign Nabil Fekir?

Liverpool have been proactive in the transfer market already, with Naby Keita set to join from RB Leipzig having agreed a deal past year, while Fabinho - a regular opponent of Fekir in Ligue 1 with Monaco - has also signed. There's a good chance Lyon are just trying to keep things under control while a deal is formalised, but what if that's not the case?

Liverpool have already been busy in the transfer window this summer.
