Breaking news coming out of Barcelona as Manuel Lanzini is out of the World Cup for Argentina.

West Ham ace Lanzini has pulled out of Argentina's World Cup squad due to injury.

West Ham's Argentina midfielder Manuel Lanzini will miss the World Cup after suffering a ruptured anterior knee ligament injury in training.

The West Ham playmaker fulfilled a key placatory role for Sampoli who has struggled with shoehorning Lionel Messi and Juventus' Paulo Dybala in the same starting XI, generally benching the latter, much to the dismay of elements back home.

However now the player looks to be facing a lengthy stretch of rehabilitation, and will likely miss the beginning of the next Premier League season.

Lanzini's original selection raised some eyebrows as he was picked by manager Jorge Sampaoli ahead of Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi, who scored 29 goals in Serie A last season.

Icardi finished the 2017/18 season with 29 goals, including a memorable hat trick against city rivals AC Milan and an incredible four goals in a league game against Sampdoria, but was a surprise omission from Jorge Sampaoli's squad to take to Russian Federation this summer.

Lanzini's injury was confirmed on Argentina's men's verified Twitter handle, Seleccion Argentina.
