Members of the Royal family gathered on Buckingham Palace's front balcony to watch the Red Arrows fly by following the marching ceremony.

The series brought into focus the role the prince played in supporting the young Queen after she came to the throne following the early death of her father King George VI in 1952, when she was just 25.

The Queen, dressed in a powder-blue ensemble and hat with flowers on the brim, was travelling alone, as her husband Prince Philip, who will celebrate his 97th birthday today, has retired from public life.

Joining the Queen to watch the event were other senior Royals, including Prince Charles and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

"I'm quite proud and I know that a lot of other people are proud of me as well", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

The lipreader told The Daily Mirror it was a simple, but caring exchange.

It's been a busy year for the British royal family.

William and Catherine's older children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, enjoyed the spectacle from the balcony, but the couple's third child, 6-week-old Prince Louis, didn't make an appearance.

Eugenie also took to her own Instagram to congratulate her dad, and shared a picture of Andrew posing inside the palace, looking happy and smart in his Grenadier Guards uniform.

Prince Harry and Meghan tied the knot on May 19.

Meanwhile Princess Charlotte burst into floods of tears (right) during the celebration to mark the Queen's 92nd birthday. Although she celebrated her real birthday on April 21, Saturday marked the official birthday of the Sovereign, the Daily Mail points out.

Buckingham Palace said Friday that the Queen underwent successful cataract surgery in May.
