Rafael Nadal's remarkable Roland Garros reign continued as the world number one clinched an 11th French Open title with a straight-sets win over Dominic Thiem on Sunday. "I saw you win this in 2005 when I was just 11 years old, but I never dreamed of getting the chance to play the final here".

"It's unbelievable, I can't describe my feelings because it's not even a dream to win here 11 times".

Nadal now owns 17 Grand Slam championships.

"Yes, and it's going to take probably one or two more years", said Gunter Bresnik, Thiem's coach.

'He had played a great two weeks, ' Nadal said after his 6-4 6-3 6-2 win.

The younger challengers struggle to land a punch, and the last six men's Grand Slam titles have now gone in the sequence of Federer-Nadal-Federer-Nadal-Federer-Nadal. I was very scared but that's sport - it was very humid.

Ken Rosewall, who won the title in 1953 and 1968, presented Nadal with the trophy.

With his three career wins over the Spaniard, all of which came on the red dirt, he has even earned the epithet, "Prince of Clay".

The victory also allowed the 32-year-old Nadal to hold onto the No. 1 ranking, just ahead of Federer.

The British broadcaster, which has held the rights to the Grand Slam clay-court tennis tournament since 2012, will have a guaranteed minimum of 90 hours of coverage for each edition of the competition from 2019.

The Austrian is never one to hide his frustration, but then the sheer relentlessness of Nadal on clay would wear anyone down. The Austrian has been broken early and pushed to deuce in each of his service games, while Nadal is largely comfortable on serve.

Although Nadal subsequently received treatment on his forearm it seemingly had little adverse effect and, after a second break of serve, his 11th triumph was secured at the fifth time of asking when Thiem sent a return long. The Austrian trails Nadal 2-1. Thiem forces a deuce with a forehand down the line, but concedes the game with a couple of loose shots.

"It's wonderful now, I can't describe my feelings", Nadal told the crowd on Philippe Chatrier Court moments after capturing his 17th Grand Slam trophy with a 6-4 6-3 6-2 victory.

The Spaniard leads 4-3 in the first set.

- Nadal breaks to love to clinch the opening set as Thiem undoes all of his earlier hard work with a third forehand unforced error of the game into the net.
