The CDC report on suicide rates appears in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report released Friday.

Suicide rates are climbing in almost every demographic, age group and geographic area, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

They've gone up in every state except Nevada.

Suicide rates across the United States increased 25 percent between 1999 and 2016, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed in an alarming report out Thursday. The highest increases were seen among teens ages 15 to 17 years old.

The CDC said the analysis was meant to help identify ways to reduce the annual suicide rate by 20% by 2025, a goal established by the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Other problems often contribute to suicide risk, such as relationship problems, substance use, or financial or job stress.

High-profile suicides lead to more phone calls to suicide prevention centers and not always right away. Utah continues to have one of the nation's highest rates for such deaths.

Bourdain's death marks the second celebrity suicide over the past week.

Kyle Moffatt remembers his father, Wade, who died of suicide three years ago, after Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain took their lives this week.

Alejo encourages anyone with thoughts of suicide or anyone needing help to reach out to pillar or other organizations.

The report found that firearms were the most common method of suicide for both those with and without mental illnesses.

CDC is very good about aggressive over-diagnosis in some areas, e-cigarettes and pre-diabetes are prominent examples where they defied the science consensus to embrace the precautionary principle, so it is inconsistent to be urging caution about the role of mental health in suicides.

Experts said some people also don't get help because they feel they can afford it.

If you have thoughts of suicide, confidential help is available for free at the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

However, "the reason most suicide decedents don't have a known mental disorder is that they were never diagnosed, not that they didn't have one", said Dr David Brent, a psychiatrist at the University of Pittsburgh, told the New York Times.
