Sixers part ways with Bryan Colangelo following Twitter burner accounts - Explica®

So what does that mean for Colangelo's future with the team?

After receiving an anonymous tip that Colangelo was operating five anonymous burner accounts on Twitter to provide commentary and criticism on Sixers players and business, the site investigated the claim. The accounts also appeared to defend Colangelo on issues ranging from basketball-related decisions to the size of his shirt collars.

"Someone's out to get me", he told Yahoo Sports.

Colangelo, 52, initially denied any involvement or prior knowledge of the controversial tweets.

When news of the accounts came out, Colangelo and Embiid reportedly spoke.

A story that has been several shades of freaky since The Ringer, a sports and culture web site, first reported on the existence of the accounts last week, had what might have been its most surprising moment on Thursday when Colangelo blasted his wife for costing him his job. The Sixers retained the law firm Paul/Weis for the investigation, and both Colangelo and Bottini had been interviewed.

The story was originally reported by The Ringer, which found several accounts that could be plausibly linked to Colangelo. There was no way Colangelo was going to fix the bridges burned by this scandal and the Philadelphia 76ers can now easily move on from this embarrassment.

Colangelo's departure will be described as a resignation rather than him being fired. The Sixers took the rights steps throughout the investigation.

Yet, she shared the information - much of which wasn't even accurate, Colangelo said. The implications for the franchise could be crippling.

However, further investigations by the firm revealed that his wife was the author of the tweets, but that Colangelo was the source of the inside information.

The Sixers have the 10th and 26th picks in the June 21 National Basketball Association draft.

In the days after The Ringer's report published, the common sentiment seemed to be that it would be hard for Colangelo to survive this.

Does Colangelo share the views of the tweeters? Philly.com's David Murphy wrote that perception can outweigh reality. Only a small circle of Sixers would have been privy to that information. His wife, Barbara Bottini, also has been connected to the accounts. Colangelo would later admit that he created the account to keep up on news.
