News outlets report 62-year-old Leimome Cheeks was charged with two counts of child endangerment. There was no air conditioning in the back of the vehicle, while temperatures in the area reached about 95 degrees.

The bystander, who asked to remain anonymous, sent the video to Memphis Police.

Leimome Cheeks, 62, allegedly placed her two grandchildren in kennels and drove them around for at least 40 minutes in temperatures as high as 95 degrees, according to police.

Cell phone video taken by a concerned citizen in southwest Tennessee shows a woman releasing her two grandchildren from dog kennels in the back of her trunk.

The children told police there was no room inside of the truck earlier in the day so their grandmother told them to get in the kennel.

"It's shocking, it really is", Blake told WATN. "Wow", neighbor Skylark Blake said.

An affidavit states Cheeks admitted to putting the kids in the kennels and drove them from Whitehaven to Collierville then to Downtown Memphis, checking on them periodically. "She's such a nice lady", a neighbor told WREG-TV.

Ms Cheeks can be seen opening the cage doors to the kennels as the children hop out.

"I think she needs some help".

"You looking at that video, you see she opened up the cage let the kids out the cage out the trunk of the vehicle, I mean it don't look good", Blake said.

The children were 7 and 8-years-old, according to Cleveland 19 News.

Cheeks is expected to appear in court Monday at 9 a.m.
