Putin welcomes Trump-Kim meeting in Singapore

US Western allies in war of words after G7 fiasco

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he is ready to hold a summit with President Trump whenever the U.S.is ready, the AP reports.

In early April, Kremlin aide Vladimir Ushakov said Trump had proposed a meeting with Putin during a telephone call.

The suggestion from Trump, made on June 8 on the eve of a summit of G7 leaders, was the latest in a string of conciliatory statements by him toward Moscow, a stance that has clashed with many congressional Republicans and Democrats, as well as large parts of the US foreign policy establishment.

Mr. Putin said in a Russian television interview that a meeting with Trump would be "useful".

"We value the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination", said Putin, adding that friendship between the heads of state and friendship between the two peoples are the solid foundation for the bilateral strategic cooperation.

Putin stressed that he is ready to meet Trump "as soon as" Washington is ready, adding that there were "no precise talks on a place for the meeting".

Chinese President Xi Jinping (習近平) late yesterday opened a two-day regional security summit attended by Russia, Iran and other allies confronting rising tensions with the USA over trade and Washington's withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal.

During the medal presentation ceremony on Friday, Mr Xi, noting that since 2000, Mr Putin has visited China 19 times, called the Russian President an old friend to the Chinese people, and also his "best friend". In April, he also warned Russian Federation that it should "get ready" for a U.S. missile strike on Syria, where Russian Federation backs President Bashar al-Assad, in a tit-for-tat exchange.

China and Russian Federation already enjoy a relatively extensive economic dialogue, which has warmed in several areas since the crisis in Ukraine that contributed to Moscow's suspension from the G8. President Trump is sitting alone on one side of a table. In general, I believe it is a technical issue.

The American leader has repeatedly said he wants to improve relationships with Moscow.

"It wasn't us who left", Putin said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has criticized the USA withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal in a speech at a regional summit in China.

Putin said in an official statement that the recently-concluded SCO summit at Qingdao called for cooperation among the member-countries to tackle issues including terrorism by designing counter-terrorism operations and holding joint drills, and to provide information regarding the operational activities by extremist groups.

Putin says Washington's decision to exit the agreement could "destabilize the situation" in the region.

The two countries also signed a raft of deals, including for nuclear cooperation projects totalling 20 billion yuan (US$3.13 billion) and a USA $1 billion industrial investment fund. He also blamed former US President Barack Obama for Russia's move into that nation.
