This is the horrifying nursery rhyme American five-year-olds are taught to survive school shootings

Five-year-olds in MA are being taught active shooter drills to the tune of children's lullaby "twinkle, twinkle little star".

What are your thoughts on this poem hanging inside of a kindergarten classroom?

A poster in a kindergarten classroom of lyrics to a song about lockdown drills is stoking the hearts of the public and stirring a debate about gun control in America. But later she tweeted a message saying that the school was "doing exactly what they need to be doing".

The post has already been liked and shared more than 60,000 times with many other parents sharing their outrage that the spate of school shootings had inevitably led to this.

In a follow-up message, Cohen said her child "was excited about [a drill] as a game to see if you can stay quiet for "one whole minute".

Georgy Cohen, from Somerville in MA, took to Twitter on Wednesday to share an image of the five-lined recital that prepped young pupils for potential shootings. "Now it's time to have some fun".

A tour of Kindergarten classes quickly turned dark after a MA mother came across a particularly morbid nursery rhyme that soundtracks lockdown preparations for young students.

"These are the things they unfortunately have to do", Cohen said.

A mom expressed mixed feelings about her daughter being prepared "if a bad guy comes to school".

A mother has been left horrified after she saw a nursery rhyme teaching kindergartners how to survive a school shooting.

"To be shocked by it is important", she added.

United States in the past few months have witnessed major school massacres, including the February 14 shootout at a high school in Florida that killed 17 people prompting widespread calls to reform gun laws.

There have been more than 20 school shootings this year alone.

"It is jarring - it's jarring for students, for educators, and for families", the statement said.

"Students in Somerville and across the country know how unnatural this is", a statement from the pair said.
