Raccoon Scaling St. Paul Skyscraper Sets Off Social Media Firestorm

The raccoon was first spotted on a ledge Tuesday morning, just a few stories high. The raccoon then steadily ascended UBS Tower, taking the time to groom itself and lay down along the way. Minnesota Public Radio has dubbed the animal #mprraccoon, while the local Fox affiliate briefly set up a live view of its perch on Periscope.

After being stranded overnight on a ledge of a downtown St. Paul office building, a raccoon made it to the roof and has been trapped, according to reports. "We were all anxious about him", says Sheila Donnelly-Coyne, an attorney whose firm, Paige Donnelly, is on the 23rd floor of the UBS building. Perhaps the little rascal knows exactly what it's doing after all.

On Twitter, office workers posted photos and videos of the raccoon resting on sills and climbing up the building's concrete pillars.

By about 10:30 p.m., the raccoon had decided on a change of scenery.

Ryan Gaydos is an editor for Fox News.

On Tuesday, a city spokesperson for animal control tweeted, "We've been in touch with wildlife organizations..."

Concerned that the raccoon had become trapped, Twitter users called for a host of inventive solutions, including sending up a hot air balloon to take the raccoon to safety. He's going to get to the top. "We didn't see it and thought, 'It went away - that's great!'" Laurie Brickley told the publication.

MPR News has branded the courageous climbing coon #mprracoon.
