WH Adviser Apologizes For 'Special Place In Hell' For Trudeau Remark

George said Trump's tariffs are going to"hurt both sides" especially considering Canada is the United States'"biggest customer

Donald Trump's trade adviser has labelled Canadian premier Justin Trudeau a back-stabber unworthy of the USA president's time after the acrimonious end to the G7 summit.

"Let me correct a mistake I made", Navarro said at a conference in Washington hosted by The Wall Street Journal. The head of his trade council, Peter Navarro, took back his TV-talk-show assertion that "there's a special place in hell" for Mr. Trudeau, but Mr. Trump told reporters that Mr. Trudeau's temerity will cost Canadians a lot of money.

Trump's economic adviser, Larry Kudlow, suggested Trudeau's comments somehow made the president look weak on the eve of a summit meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

In a post-signing news conference and in an interview with ABC News, the president recounted how miffed he was to hear Trudeau's G7 wrap-up news conference, where the prime minister reiterated Canada's intention to impose counter-tariffs on US goods in retaliation for Trump's imposition of crippling tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum. Trudeau particularly objected to the Trump administration's decision to cite national security in imposing the tariffs, which the Canadian leader said was "kind of insulting" to Canadians who had fought alongside USA forces in foreign wars. But Trump's shots at Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau and his general churlishness served no useful end.

"We will continue to conduct our diplomacy the Canadian way, that is, being positive and constructive and firm in defending the interests of our industries.in diplomacy it doesn't really matter about personal feelings and personal comments", said Trade Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne when asked about the apology.

Describing the USA tariffs on European steel and aluminium as "unjustified", she left no doubt that EU nations would impose counter-measures on United States goods in response but cautioned against tit-for-tat retaliation which might lead to a trade war.

G7 leaders jumped to the defence of Trudeau and reiterated their support for their joint statement. And I say, 'Push him around? He said Trudeau's promise to follow through with tariffs on USA goods - a response to Trump's own tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico, and the European Union - would hurt the Canadian economy. "Now, the United States because of bad management at the top, because of presidents that didn't care about trade or didn't understand it or whatever reason, for many years with China being obviously the most successful at it but the European Union is second, 151 billion we lost, they were represented at the meeting, and we're being taken advantage of on trade". That's what weak, dishonest Justin Trudeau did.

"As acknowledged by CBC/Radio Canada, 'Canada levies a tariff of 270 percent on milk, 245 percent on cheese and 298 percent on butter in an effort to keep USA and other foreign dairy imports out'".

In a matter of hours and series of texts, the US has rushed into a diplomatic crisis with its closest allies, adding anxiety to an already tense global economy.

"The historic and important agreement we all reached at #G7Charlevoix will help make our economies stronger & people more prosperous, protect our democracies, safeguard our environment and protect women & girls' rights around the world".

Despite all that, US President carried on yesterday saying that the "US had a big trade deficit with Canada and that a little balance was needed".

Both aides accused Trudeau of betraying Trump, a Republican, at a news conference held after the US president had departed Canada.

That's not a problem if you think we don't need allies, because they're all going to hell anyway.
