Immediately behind Mitchell is the other honorary co-chair Stacey Holycross, who was recognized with a Caregiver Award for her dedicated service to friend Teresa Welch, who passed away from cancer in January 2017.

Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

A Twin Falls man is getting ready to walk a marathon during the Relay for Life event on June 22.

"Get the support you need because there are plenty of us in the community who will come support you", said cancer survivor and relay participant Pam Bailey.

He is 65 years old and has never done a marathon, but he said it's a good way to honor his friend. A luminaria ceremony will happen after the walk and the event will be concluded with closing ceremonies.

"We all know that cancer has many tools in its toolbox to take us all down, but the American Cancer Society has given us new tools to eradicate this disease", said Broeker, who closed her speech by reminding everyone to live each day to its fullest and to keep fighting no matter what.

Autumn Shattuck said this year's guest speaker is cancer survivor and Fair Haven Union High School track coach Randy Shutter.

Organizers said they work all year to set up the event.

In 2017, the Rutland event raised about $230,000 and Vitagliano said this year's goal is $260,000.

"The Survivor Lap is really key", she says.

"Even though Relay has been going on for 23 years, it's wonderful that we still can go strong in Franklin County", Wildberger said.

The annual Relay For Life event was a night of fun and healing for those who have fought or lost a loved one to cancer.
