Hornets trading Howard to Nets for Mozgov

Nets trading for Dwight Howard in NBA stunner

Six years ago, Dwight Howard was on a flight from San Antonio to Orlando.

An eight-time All-Star and former No. 1 overall pick is about to join his fourth team in three years.

"Guys were just sick and exhausted of his act", said Haywood, according to Howard Beck of Sports Illustrated. He subsequently did so, opting into his Magic contract for the next season, and ending trade talks.

Dwight Howard's stay with the Hornets will be a very brief one, as Charlotte has reportedly agreed to send the star big man to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for fellow big man Timofey Mozgov.

Howard, 32, played for the Hornets in the 2017-18 season, where he averaged 16.6 points and 9.3 rebounds in 81 games.

The Nets will be the fifth team that Howard has played for in his career.

Mozgov has two years left on his contract at $16m per season.

Howard is unquestionably a future Hall of Famer, but his personality has led him to be handed off from team to team. The news was also confirmed by Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer. Howard could even be bought out by the Nets, though that has not been publicly broached to this point. For the Nets, trading Mozgov will allow them to save the $17 million remaining on his deal for the 2019-20 season, and gives them the space needed to potentially create two max salary slots.
