A news anchor on Monday broke down while trying to read an exclusive report on infants and toddlers being forcibly separated from their parents at the USA border with Mexico and sent to "tender age" shelters in South Texas. "Thank you. Do we have it?" Maddow then attempted to cut away, asking her producers, "Can we put up the graphic of this?" She linked to the article, which reported that at least three "tender age" shelters in South Texas have been housing children as young as babies.

Rachel Maddow, from MSNBC, had a breaking bulletin come in during her show, and tried to read it out on air.

However, she found herself unable to get it together enough to read through the rest of the briefing, and eventually had to pass off the story to another anchor via satellite.

But experts say that the mere act of separating children from their primary caregiver creates a traumatic experience for the child. Instead of continuing, she just made a decision to close out the show and let host Lawrence O'Donnell begin "The Last Word". "Not the way I intended that to go, not by a mile".

Shortly after the incident, Maddow took to Twitter to apologize to her viewers and shared the story that she couldn't finish on air.

This is Rachel Maddow upon getting the breaking news that Trump has established detention centers for babies who've been forcefully taken from their parents.

- Michael Moore (@MMFlint) June 20, 2018Watching Rachel @maddow not even be able to speak, but literally break down crying talking about Trump's latest development of "tender age" detainment of seemingly infants to toddlers has me a little shaken, sad, and disturbed.
