Microsoft relaunches its news app to take on Google and Apple’s offerings

Microsoft also offers customizable breaking news alerts, a dark theme for easier nighttime reading, and an iOS widget that keeps you up-to-date at a glance. The Microsoft News app has been completely redesigned for iPhone and Android, and there's a Microsoft News available on Windows 10 and online, as well. No, Microsoft, it enables better reading at all times.

According to Microsoft, more than 100,000 pieces of content are submitted to the Microsoft News engine, which is then processed by AI to determine the contents freshness, category, topic type, photos to pair with the content, and potential popularity.

Formerly known as MSN News, the app has now been redesigned so it will be easier for you to get the news that you're interested in and that you need to know. It also has options for local news in major cities, if you prefer knowing more about the place you live in or you're going to.

I spent a few minutes with the Android app, and found the interface to be simple enough to navigate. Your interests and browsing habits will nearly certainly inform the stories that are delivered to you. There's even a prominently featured Good News tab, if you're into that sort of thing. However, these articles were displayed in an in-app browser, as opposed to the native view.

The new Microsoft News app, just like Apple News and Google News, puts all your favorite news sources in one place.

Microsoft stated that as part of this program they have paid more than $600 million to publishers in the past four years through this advertising revenue share. Microsoft gains access to nearly unlimited content that can be displayed on MSN and in their apps and the publishers get a share of the advertising revenue.
