Politicians can't ignore the people: Lammy on anti-Brexit march

Speaking on BBC radio, Jurgen Maier, head of German manufacturer Siemens in Britain, said slogans such as "full British Brexit" - used by Johnson - were "incredibly unhelpful".

He said the threat had "added credibility because if we were to leave, the economic impact on a number of European countries would be severe".

He told the BBC: 'The Prime Minister has always said nothing is agreed until everything is agreed and that no deal would be better than a bad deal, and I think it's essential as we enter the next phase of the negotiations that the European Union understands that and believes it'.

Victoria Lewis, 55, a maths teacher from Brighton who wore a blue T-shirt that read "Citizen of Europe", came out to rally "because I have three children and they need to be part of Europe. Put simply, a No Deal scenario directly threatens Airbus' future in the UK", Mr Williams said.

"We are seriously considering whether we should continue that development or we should find alternate solutions", Williams said about plans to manufacture airplane wings in Britain. "The best option is leaving with a good deal but you've got to be able to walk away from the table", he said.

Rejecting claims the government had failed to make adequate preparations for a no-deal Brexit, he told a national newspaper: "There's lots going on".

"This is a careful process, it is not created to scare the horses to worry people, it is created to get the work done".

Protesters packed the main arteries of the capital, waving British, Irish and European flags and colourful banners to call for a "People's Vote" on the eventual deal in which Britain leaves the world's biggest trading bloc.

BMW's top executive Ian Robertson told reporters that United Kingdom vehicle manufacturing was hurtling toward a cliff and that his company needs to know by the end of the summer what's what - and not in October, as May plans.

Writing in the Sun, Mr Johnson said the public were keen to get on with breaking away from Brussels.

In it they urge May to warn her European counterparts that despite their "intransigent and punitive stance" they can not delay or block Brexit.

"They don't want some sort of hopeless compromise, some perpetual push me-pull you arrangement in which we stay half-in and half-out in a political no man's land".

"They don't want some bog roll Brexit, soft, yielding and seemingly infinitely long".

A Survation poll earlier this week found that 48 percent of respondents supported a referendum on the final deal, while 25 percent were opposed.

"People have seen politicians making a cataclysmic mess of a really bad deal they didn't vote for, or even a no deal they didn't vote for", a spokesman for the campaign told Reuters.

Lib Dem leader Sir Vince Cable, Green co-leader Caroline Lucas, Labour former NEC member and actor Tony Robinson and pro-EU campaigner Gina Miller were among those who joined the crowd in the capital on the second anniversary of the European Union vote. 17 million voted for Brexit.

"Brexit is not a done deal, not inevitable, Brexit can be reversed", said Cable.
