Missing Thai Soccer Team Found Alive After 10 Days Trapped In Flooded Cave

Mr Narongsak said the passageway the divers were making their way through goes upwards in some places and downwards in others and is extremely narrow, making it hard for divers to fit through with all their gear.

The worldwide rescue operation - which includes the Thai Navy SEALs as well as experts from the US, China, Australia and the United Kingdom - had been working to reach a large, deep chamber, informally known as Pattaya Beach, where the missing boys were believed to have taken refuge.

It remains unclear whether any of the group are injured or in need of medical attention, but they have been given energy gels to sustain them while a plan is worked out to bring them to safety.

"[We will] prepare to send additional food to be sustained for at least four months and train all 13 to dive while continuing to drain the water", Navy Captain Anand Surawan said via a statement. They key factor is whether the water level can be reduced, either naturally or mechanically.

The miracle rescue sparked jubilation across the country after a gruelling operation beset by heavy downpours and fast-moving flooding floods.

"They are all safe but the mission is not completed", the Chiang Rai governor said.

"The doctor advised that we should provide several kinds of medicine to prevent infection and other illness", adding that medics had reached the young footballers. In footage that emerged after the boys were found by two British divers late Monday one asks to "go outside".

A team led by Thai navy SEAL divers pushed through the murk of a kilometre- (half-mile-) long chamber to a passageway that could lead to where the missing may have taken shelter, said the SEALs' commander, Rear Adm. Arpakorn Yookongkaew.

Emaciated and bedraggled, the football team was crammed onto a wedge of dry ground surrounded by water deep inside the cave.

"The divers from a Thai navy SEAL unit were within [1,600 feet] of a chamber containing an elevated rock mound, nicknamed "Pattaya Beach" by cavers, which could have provided the boys with a refuge when heavy rains flooded the cave, blocking the way out", Reuters reports. Many people are coming.

But Arpakorn said even though the divers made some progress in their effort to find the missing, they're not yet where they want to be. The diver responded, "No, not today, not today".

"Monday. Monday. You have been here 10 days".

A rake thin child in the foreground appears to bow in gratitude and says "thank you" as his voice falters.

There had been no contact with the boys, aged between 11 and 16, since they went missing with their coach, aged 25, last Saturday.

Crowds at the teeming rescue site cheer the good news and a nation breathes a sigh of relief.

Aisha Wiboonrungrueng, the mother of one of the boys, smiled and hugged family members.

"They have lights and hope now, so I think waiting it out, as long as they can get supplies in there to make them comfortable and warm and fed and hydrated". "I'm not sure they can eat as they have not eaten for a while". "I felt elation. I felt so excited", she said of getting the news that the team had been located.

"Let him come and let's play (football) together, I miss him", he told AFP.

"The British Cave Rescue Council organised the British cave divers to support the Thai operations - not us personally".

Relatives of the missing boys show photos of them after they were found alive. An official Australian group has now followed a USA military team, British cave experts, Chinese lifesaving responders and several other volunteer groups from various countries.
