Is your Samsung phone texting private pics without permission?

Some Samsung users say their phones randomly sent

Samsung is aware of the issue and is working to resolve the problem. In some cases, users reported the phone sending out normal photos, while in others the phone grabbed emojis and other image resources from the phone's storage.

Samsung's Messages app bundled with the South Korean giant's latest smartphones and tablets may silently send people's private photos to random contacts, it is claimed. According to posts on Reddit and Samsung's official support boards first spotted by Gizmodo, the devices affected include the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 8.

Reports from Samsungphone users emerged, stating that pictures have been sent from their phones to seemingly random contacts, without their permission. If you can answer "yes" to both, then you'd better make sure you're using a texting app other than Samsung Messages for the time being.

Samsung has confirmed that it is aware of the reports, and a spokesperson said in a statement that the company is looking into whether there's root cause. One user said that his Galaxy smartphone sent ALL of his photos to his girlfriend.

Users who encountered the bug say they didn't know the phone had sent out the photos, as they do not appear as sent messages.

Samsung and T-Mobile didn't immediately reply to CNET's requests for comment.

T-Mobile reportedly told Gizmodo that "It's not a T-Mobile issue", pointing them back to Samsung. This may be a pain, however, because it means if you do want to send photos or files through the app, you need to restore permission in settings again.

For those of you looking for a workaround while the company tries to fix the problem, your options appear to be going into your device's app settings and revoking "Samsung Messages' ability to access storage".
