Pro-GOP Business Lobbying Giant Goes to War With Trump Over Tariffs

The European Union Mexico and Canada have all the hit U.S. with billions in retaliatory tariffs

Donald Trump's trade war and policies, in general, are now being attacked by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

And in addition to the negative economic consequences, Trump's posture toward the rest of the world makes it less likely that the United States' allies will be there when it needs them. "They treat us very unfairly".

Trump, however, has repeatedly defended his position, criticizing the European Union, Canada, and China on trade both during the Fox interview and at a recent rally in SC, where Trump went as far as to declare the United States the "piggybank" other nations like to take from.

Trump has implemented billions of dollars in tariffs targeted at China, Canada, Mexico and the European Union, saying such moves are needed to offset trade imbalances.

The report also said Trump's tarriffs threaten $46 million in exports to China, and $30 million to Mexico.

Schinas said European auto makers create over half a million jobs in the U.S. "We should seek free and fair trade, but this is just not the way to do it".

The European Union warned the Trump administration that tariffs on imported cars on national security grounds would be illegal.

The agency, according to Reuters, has begun launching a campaign that pushes back against the President's trade war.

Imports had, it said, not shown a dramatic increase in recent years and largely grown alongside the overall expansion of the United States auto market, with increased demand that could not be met by domestic production.

On Sunday, Canada - a country that, by the way, imports about as much from us as it exports in return - announced retaliatory tariffs against $12.6 billion of USA products. On Friday, Canada struck back at USA steel and aluminum tariffs, vowing to impose punitive measures on $12.6 billion worth of American goods until Washington relents.

U.S. synth company Moog has warned that a 25% tariff on the import of Chinese goods brought in by President Trump could result in layoffs and the end of its instruments being made in the US. China is planning a 25 percent tariff on soybeans and pork.

The submission said that tariffs on cars and vehicle parts could undermine U.S. auto production by imposing higher costs on United States manufacturers. For example, one campaign says SC will have $3 billion worth of exports targeted by retaliatory tariffs.

The president announced 25 percent import tariffs on hundreds of Chinese products to pressure the country to alter its practices.

Yu says this protectionist attitude could even see some winners, if people start focusing more on buying local products.
