"If it keeps raining or starts to rain and water levels rise then there's a bit more immediacy required".

"Now a flash flood because of sudden heavy rain locked them in", he added.

This would be one of the quickest ways to get the boys out but is also more unsafe than other options.

"They have been fed with easy-to-digest, high-energy food with vitamins and minerals, under the supervision of a doctor", Rear Admiral Apagorn Youkonggaew, head of the Thai navy's special forces, told reporters.

"We will drain all water out from the cave then we will take all 13 people out of the cave". Well, that's just grouse - and it's what Thai authorities reportedly have planned for the kids holed up inside the Tham Luang cavern.

Cave rescue experts said it could be safer to simply supply them where they are for now rather than trying to have the boys dive out.

The Navy SEAL commander had also said on Tuesday a telephone line was being installed in the cave in order for the boys to communicate with their families.

The navy Seal team on site had earlier sent out a request for donations of small full-face diving masks after it was found that the masks they had were too big for the children, fuelling speculation that a rescue attempt was imminent.

"They are cave divers with experience of diving in very flooded caves all over the world and some rescue operations as well", Bill Whitehouse, the vice chairman of the British Cave Rescue Council, told ABC News of the divers who found the boys, John Volanthen and Richard Stanton.

The 12 boys and their soccer coach were found late Monday still in the cave and it is not known when they will be able to leave due to flooding and other factors.

Thais across the country, who have been following every twist of the nine-day long saga, reacted to Monday night's news with joy and relief.

The search for the group had gripped the nation as it was unclear where they were or whether they even were still alive.

Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha thanked the worldwide experts and rescuers. "Thank you so much", he said to a British member of the crew.

The boys range in age from 11 to 16, and are with their 25-year-old coach.

They were found on a rock shelf about 4km from the mouth of the cave.

Outside the cave the mother of one of the boys teared-up as she watched the clip on a television screen, saying she was "glad" for a glimpse of her son.

"Many people are coming", one of the divers told the group.

Divers had to navigate a series of sharp, narrow bends in near-darkness.

Reygadas said the boys' coach will be a key figure in keeping them motivated.

Experts have cautioned that taking inexperienced divers through the unsafe corridors of muddy, zero-visibility waters would be very risky.

Thai Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda, a member of the ruling military junta, flagged the prospect of the boys using diving gear while being guided by professional divers.

Other teams are still scouring the mountainside in the hope of finding another way into the cave.

"It's something that skilled cave divers spend hundreds of hours training for after they have already been open water divers for quite some time".

"They're mentally stable which is actually pretty good", Reymenants said.

In the tape of the encounter, one of the British rescuers asks, in English, how many were in the group.
