Raymond Felton Returning to Thunder on One-Year Deal

Raymond Felton Reportedly Agrees to Re-Sign with Thunder on 1-Year Contract

The franchise went past the $300 million threshold when they re-signed free agent point guard Raymond Felton.

The Oklahoma City Thunder, a 10-year old franchise, just made National Basketball Association salary cap history by becoming the first team ever to have a roster worth $300 million between the roster's payroll and luxury-tax bill. Paul George re-signing with the team at the max has him earning $30.5 million.

The Thunder are already saddled with salaries of Westbrook ($35.4 million), Carmelo Anthony ($27.9 million), Steven Adams ($24.2 million) and Andre Roberson ($10 million) for next season.

However, it was also reported that the 28-year-old was strongly considering a stay in Oklahoma with a potential one-plus-one deal as a three-part mini-series documenting his offseason and free agency started airing last week in anticipation of his final decision.

The Thunder may miss his scoring occasionally, but Carmelo's departure wouldn't stop OKC from being a playoff team.

Spotrac says if the Thunder waives Anthony, they will save around $17.1 million in cap space and around $90 million in luxury tax payment if they decide to replace him with a player with a minimum salary.

He's a career 41 percent shooter, including 33 percent from three-point range, as well as almost 79 percent from the free throw line. He was the fifth overall pick in the 2005 draft.

Anthony isn't an essential piece for a championship run in the National Basketball Association.

However, most of the deep-dive National Basketball Association talk surrounding the Thunder right now revolves around the financial implications involved in all of their maneuvers.

Last season, Felton served as a backup to Russell Westbrook, averaging 6.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 5.4 assists in 82 games.

Noel was a dependable big man in his first three years in the league, but his production with the Dallas Mavericks dropped. It was just the second occasion in Felton's career that he played in every game, and the first time since the 2008-09 season.
