Daniel Cormier Falls Hard at UFC 226 Media Event, Claims He's 'Fine'

UFC 226 Cain Velasquez Daniel Cormier

UFC 226 will be held at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday.

According to Daniel Cormier, true UFC superfights have much in common with cartwheel kicks, flying knee knockouts or inverted rolling triangle chokes.

And nearly nobody actually pulls them off.

UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic (red gloves) throws a punch at Francis Ngannou (blue gloves) during their title fight at UFC 220 at the TD Garden in Boston. Miocic is the UFC heavyweight champion.

The UFC has branded their UFC 226 clash "The Superfight" - and Cormier says that label is fully justified. "This is the chance for both of us to prove what we can do in unique circumstances". I know guys are lined up to fight me. "So let's do it".

But Fabricio Werdum, I don't know what he was doing. "This is the kind of fight you always wonder about". Holloway was yanked from his title defense in the co-main event against Brian Ortega. The heavyweight champ is listed as a -230 while Cormier is the +185 underdog.

Miocic also looked composed and has seen off all-comers as heavyweight king and goes into the bout as favourite.

But the size disparity between Miocic and Cormier will be more vertical than horizontal.

Cormier is at least 5 inches shorter than the 6-foot-4 Miocic, who has a whopping 8-inch reach advantage.

As bigger than Cormier as Miocic has looked this week, when they weighed-in on Friday morning the scales told a different story.

"Not having to cut any weight is very pleasant", Cormier said with a laugh.

Daniel Cormier wants to be considered one of the greatest fighters of all time. He won the Strikeforce title and never lost a single round at heavyweight - not even during his career as a heavyweight amateur wrestler.

There is, of course, the possibility of another fight with bitter rival Jon Jones, the ex-light heavyweight champion who is now suspended because of a drug test failure that he is contesting. His standout wrestling skills have been insurmountable for nearly every opponent except Jon Jones, who has beaten him twice. Fighters bailing due to injuries, failed drug tests, or whatever rumor you believe have become alarmingly routine and it is perhaps the biggest problem plaguing Dana White's brand and causing casual MMA fans from becoming rabid consumers. He's a big man, tough, got a good chin, but it's what I expected. I'm not going to reinvent the wheel at this stage in my career. "I'm a grinder, and that's what I'm going to do to Stipe". He was also pulled from his bout for the lightweight title at UFC 223 in April on the day of the weigh-in when officials refused to allow him to lose any more weight. He's certainly in discussion for it alongside Georges St-Pierre and Demetrious Johnson.
