Arsenal have completed the signing of Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira from Italian side Sampdoria.

Torreira featured in all five of Uruguay's World Cup matches and started the last three as Oscar Tabarez's men reached the quarter-finals before losing 2-0 to France.

Torreira figures to replace Jack Wilshere who chose not to re-sign with his boyhood club after his contract expired, and instead joined West Ham on Monday.

Fellow Gooner, Bode Ogundriran, termed the player a "real winner", who is very tough and never lies down.

"I am used to coping with this kind of thing in the best possible way".

Guendouzi will join up with fellow new signings Stephan Lichtsteiner, Sokratis Papasthathopoulos, Bernd Leno and Torreira and will look to bed in quickly ahead of the 2018-19 season. It makes me feel comfortable.

UC Sampdoria announces that it has relinquished the rights to the sports performances of the player Lucas Sebastián Torreira to Arsenal FC.

"He is a young player already with good experience, but who wants to keep on growing".

Guendouzi said: "It's something I'm immensely proud of".

"We are delighted Matteo is joining us".

Part of Unai Emery's remit will also include ensuring the continuation of the footballing philosophies and foundations laid down by Wenger.

The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Gunners midfielder is more likely to take the No11 shirt despite number three being available after Torreira wore that number at the World Cup.

Ozil has made a decision to switch to the No 10 shirt which was freed up when Jack Wilshere left Arsenal to move to West Ham.

The Belgian has just one year left on his contract and is expected to push for an exit after the World Cup.
