Motorola isn't giving up on its smartphone Mods just yet

As part of the Android 8.1 Oreo update, the Moto G5 will enjoy "many enhancements including new multitasking features, more efficient notification controls, improved data saver and battery features, new power menu UI and Bluetooth improvements".

Once the carrier's 5G network is available next year, you'll be able to purchase a 5G MotoMod that will bring support for the newer technology to your Z3 since it will pack Qualcomm's X50 modem (as well as an extra 2,000 mAh of juice to power that fast connection).

At a press event at its headquarters in Chicago, Motorola officially announced the Moto Z3 on Thursday, August 2. During today's press event, Motorola also confirmed previously rumored plans to launch a 5G Moto Mod, allowing all of the Moto Z members to connect to the forthcoming 5G network from Verizon Wireless.

-Alongside the Moto Z3, Motorola has also launched 5G Moto Mod, this makes Z3 the first ever 5G-enabled smartphone in the market.

The new Moto Z3 features a six-inch display with a resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 that's powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 processor and 4GB of RAM.

Verizon says it will offer the Z3 as an exclusive starting August 16. No one I spoke to was willing to make definitive statements on how frequently Motorola would release new Mod accessories, but they did reaffirm the Lenovo subsidiary's devotion to the concept. The Moto Z3 comes with Turbopower support. A dual-LED flash accompanies the rear camera. The attachment uses four millimeter-wave modules located in the front, side, and rear to achieve 5G connectivity no matter what orientation the phone's held in. But, the smartphone is rumoured to hit the Indian shores later this month, alongside the Z3 Play, which went official in June in the US. There is an 8-megapixel image sensor at the front for selfies with 1.12 micron pixels and 84-degree field of view. The 5G Mod will be launched in early 2019 and the pricing of the same has not been revealed by the brand at the moment.

-The Moto Z3 is splash resistant, but Motorola hasn't yet specified the IP rating.

Expect hands-on reviews, device versus device coverage, and other great Moto Z3 content in the hours and days to come.

While the Moto Z3 will be on sale starting August 16th in the U.S., the 5G Moto Mod is mentioned to be available only from early 2019. That 5G Moto Mod is going to be an impressive accessory, though. However, there's no word on the Indian pricing and availability of the handset at this point. For $480, that is cheaper than a OnePlus 6 but we guess that since it does not feature any attractive hardware specifications, the price is justified.
