Pressure continues to mount on Jeremy Corbyn over anti-Semitism row

The Jewish Labour Movement has written to Labour's chief whip urging him to suspend Chris Williamson MP for remaining silent at an event as an audience member reportedly accused Jews of being "foot-soldiers" for Israel.

The footage comes following a turbulent week for the Labour Party leader who was forced to apologise for giving a talk at an event on Holocaust Memorial Day in 2010 which was part of a tour called "Never Again for Anyone - Auschwitz to Gaza".

In a series of tweets, she said: "Now Peter Willsman's disgusting rant against Jewish community & rabbis has been made public by @JewishChron, & what seems to be lying exposed about what he did & didn't say, he should be summarily expelled".

Earlier it emerged Mr Corbyn was at a meeting in 2010 called "The Misuse of the Holocaust for Political Purposes".

Not all of what I said has been accurately reported. I saw the mortar shells that had gone through the school buildings, the destroyed United Nations establishments, the burnt-out schools, the ruined homes, the destroyed lives, the imprisoned people, the psychological damage to a whole generation who've been imprisoned for as long as the siege of Leningrad and Stalingrad took place.

The Board of Deputies of British Jews, made up of nearly 300 deputies directly elected by synagogues and community organisations, said Labour had let Mr Willsman off lightly by not taking disciplinary action against him.

He said: "It is extraordinary that any MP, whoever they are, to host an event of this kind on Holocaust Memorial Day".

He further acknowledged that in the past, he has "on occasion appeared on platforms with people whose views I completely reject".

"I do not believe anti-Semitism is "widespread" in the Labour Party, and that was what my comments were trying to refer to, but we do have a problem which needs stamping out".

However, he also faced questions over his support for the controversial International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network (IJAN), the creation of which he backed in a 2008 Commons motion.

The IJAN's charter asks prospective members if they 'feel enraged and saddened that the holocaust against Jewish people is being used to perpetrate other atrocities?'

'Of course he didn't and doesn't endorse all of the language and views expressed in their charter, ' the spokesman added.

Debate in the party has focused on the party's new code of conduct on antisemitism and the fact it features the internationally accepted definition but does not replicate in full a list of examples of antisemitism published by the IHRA alongside its definition.

The organisation also issued a fresh complaint - its third - about Mr Corbyn to Labour.

'This apology rings utterly hollow.

Abdul Aziz Umar, who Mr. Corbyn refers to as a "brother", was given seven life sentences after he helped in the preparation of a suicide vest detonated at a restaurant in Jerusalem in 2003, which killed seven innocent people.

Mr Corbyn - who last night apologised for his own attendance at an event where Israeli policy was compared to the Nazis - has made no comment on a leaked recording of Peter Willsman's vile tirade at a meeting of Labour's ruling committee.
