Turns Out Former Browns QB Johnny Manziel Sucks in Canada Too

Here's Johnny: Nathan Peterman has company in QB lore

Here's Johnny: Nathan Peterman has company in QB lore

An opportunity against his former team, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, seemed like the ideal chance for Johnny Football to put his talents on display.

But after his CFL debut with the Montreal Alouettes Friday evening, it seems Manziel can not catch a break.

After completing a pass for a 5-yard loss on his first play, Manziel threw an interception on the second - with the 2012 Heisman Trophy victor bringing down linebacker Larry Dean.

Manziel didn't have a great debut in the National Football League either, though he has never thrown four interceptions in one game before. Manziel left having completed 11 of 20 passes for 104 yards.

Manziel will be leading a team that has won once in its last 17 outings dating back to last August, but which hopes it has found the quarterback it needs to be a contender.

"I felt I just made some uncharacteristic plays today, and you know, this game is humbling", Manziel said afterward.

Some may think it too soon to put him in even after a full week of meetings and practice, but Sherman said that with Manziel's talent and intelligence, the time was right.

"I didn't feel uncomfortable", Manziel said.

Manziel began the season with Hamilton, but couldn't get on the field behind starter Jeremiah Masoli and was traded to Montreal two ago weeks ago.

Masoli was 17 of 26 for 300 yards and two touchdowns and a scoring run for the Tiger-Cats (3-4).

"This is only going to motivate me".

In Johnny Manziel's first career National Football League start, he went 10-for-18 for 80 yards and two interceptions as the Browns lost to the Bengals 30-0 on December 14, 2014. While there were flashes of the Manziel magic football fans remember, Hamilton overwhelmed Montreal in the early going, and took a 38-3 lead into the locker room at halftime.

There were moments where Manziel showed off some of the ability that captivated football fans when he rose to prominence in 2012 as the Heisman Trophy victor at Texas A&M.

Montreal is a rebuilding team and there aren't many good pieces in place for Manziel to take advantage of.

TWENTY-THREE POINTS - That's Montreal's single-game season high, achieved twice, and a target Manziel will be looking to beat.
