Jason Day a WGC threat, says Tiger Woods

Woods is an eight-time victor at Firestone, which is hosting this World Golf Championship for the last time.

Fresh off his finish of tied sixth at the Open Championship, Woods again finds himself in the top 10 of a big event heading into the weekend. "I just didn't hit the putts hard enough".

Woods, an eight-times victor at Firestone, electrified the gallery with three early birdies but in the end managed only a middling 68 on a course that was there for the taking, with soft greens allowing players to fire aggressively at the pins.

Tiger Woods has given observers a rare glimpse into his amusing side with a brilliant comeback that put Jason Day firmly in his place.

The bad news for Woods: His second-round 68 left him five shots back of co-leaders Ian Poulter, Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Thomas and in a tie for 10th.

"The golf course is playing very soft, very receptive, and when you're able to hit five irons and they only roll out about a foot, the guys are going to put up good scores", Woods said after his round, via espn.com. There are 40 plus guys under par and that is never the case here at Firestone.

In all, he hit just 7 of 14 fairways. A drive well left on the 3rd was followed by a missed green right and his first bunker shot of the day, but Woods had a clean lie and blasted out to within six inches, tapping in for another par and keeping his round bogey-free.

"I felt better with my game than I did yesterday, for sure", he said. "I felt a little bit more sharp, or a little bit more so than I did yesterday". He had momentum on his side, but he didn't put up another red number until he stuck his tee shot on par-3 12th to 2 feet. The model provides live "Make Cut", "Top 20", "Top 5", and "Win" probabilities every 5 minutes from the opening tee shot to the final putt of every PGA TOUR event.

The eight-time champion hit back from a bogey at the first with three birdies over the next four holes, and he picked up another shot after threatening the flag with a sublime tee shot at the short 12th.

"No it's probably the luckiest he's ever gotten", Woods said as roars of laughter went up around the pair.

Tiger Woods will need to have a better grasp of his putter if he's to chase down the leading pack at Firestone.

"It's imperative for me to get the ball in play, and if I'm there, go ahead and attack".
