Steve Jobs' brutal words to daughter

It was a tough start in life for the now 40-year-old, who endured a strained relationship with her father and his second family.

Here are four revelations about the Apple billionaire from Ms Brennan-Jobs' book, after an excerpt was published in Vanity Fair magazine on Friday.

Chrisann Brennan and daughter Lisa Brennan-Jobs relied on welfare while Steve Jobs drove Porsches.

While he continued to deny paternity of Brennan-Jobs, he was allegedly forced to undergo a DNA test. Spoiler alert - though things got better between, there was no grand reconciliation (Steve died at age 56 on October 5, 2011 after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.) "For him, I was a blot on a spectacular ascent, as our story did not fit with the narrative of greatness and virtue he might have wanted for himself".

In 1980, Steve Jobs was finally sued for child support payments - something he did not take kindly to.

The unsuccessful Apple Lisa computer was named after Jobs' daughter, but he denied it.

At one point, she mentions how her wealthy father would replace a Porsche whenever it got a scratch. That's when he made the remark about her smelling "like a toilet".

Brennan-Jobs describes visiting her sick father every weekend and trying to fit in around her stepmother, Laurene Powell, and her three half-siblings.

"You know who I am?" he asked, per Brennan-Jobs' memoir.

Brennan-Jobs states her father was "sour" with her even on his deathbed and spoke to her in a "biting way".

He responded by denying paternity, swearing in a deposition that he was sterile and naming another man as Brennan-Jobs' father.

"'You're not getting anything, ' he said".

Later in her childhood, Brennan-Jobs would occasionally stay with her father as her mother took college classes.

"I'm one of the most important people you will ever know", he said. "You understand? Nothing. You're getting nothing".

But when she asked her father in high school if the unsuccessful desktop computer project was her namesake, she said Jobs dismissed her with a "nope, sorry, kid". "My existence ruined his streak", she wrote. I watched him gather both his legs in one arm, twist himself 90 degrees by pushing against the headboard with the other arm, and then use both arms to hoist his own legs over the edge of the bed and onto the floor. I didn't know. His voice hurt-sharp, in my chest, Brennan-Jobs recounts.

She goes on to write of a later experience, however, when Jobs allegedly changed his mind about whether she inspired LISA, a shocking admission which came during a lunch when U2 lead singer Bono asked Steve to clarify once and for all.
