The Hammers have now moved to completed another incoming with Silva - who will begin life in East London with the Under-23s - penning a three-year contract.

"This is a very important moment for me", he remarked.

"I am a technical player and I am very fast".

"I would like to welcome Xande Silva to West Ham United and wish him a successful future with the club", said academy director Terry Westley. "I am very happy to be here at West Ham", the player told the club's official website upon his unveiling.

West Ham's Premier League rivals Southampton and Crystal Palace are also said to be keen on securing a deal for the England worldwide.

Boss Manuel Pellegrini has been looking to bring in a new striker to boost his forward options and he has set his sights on Porto hit-man Marega, who is regarded as one of the best finishers in Europe.

A pacey and tricky individual capable of playing across the front line, Silva has repeatedly caught the eye at youth-team level for Portugal and helped his country to a semi-final spot at the UEFA under-19 European Championship two years ago.

The former Sporting Lisbon youngster follows Issa Diop, Lukasz Fabianski, Ryan Fredericks, Jack Wilshere, Andriy Yarmolenko, Fabian Balbuena and Felipe Anderson in moving to the London Stadium in what has proven to be a busy summer for West Ham.
