Jurgen Klopp suffered his third defeat in a final with Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is not concerned by his defensive options heading into the opening weekend of the season, despite being able to field only one senior centre back in the 3-1 friendly win over Torino.

'Hendo needs a pre-season but not as much as the others as he has not had long off'.

Roberto Firmino, Georginio Wijnaldum and Daniel Sturridge all got on the scoresheet ahead of the Reds' Premier League opener with West Ham United on Sunday afternoon. "He was very comfortable on the ball five minutes in and it meant we could show for it and he was starting most of our play, so it was a very good performance from him". Wijnaldum and Salah combined to set up Firmino for a shot that deflected into the top corner off Lorenzo De Silvestri.

Jurgen Klopp will undoubtedly be happy with what has been a very successful pre-season for Liverpool.

Liverpool should have taken the lead moments earlier when gifted a hugely generous penalty by referee Michael Oliver. They have also landed Monaco midfielder Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City, in addition to RB Leipzig and Guinea worldwide Naby Keita who was already secured in summer 2017.

Liverpool, however, beat City three times last season - twice in the two-legged Champions League quarter-final, and their moves in the transfer market should make them serious contenders.

While City start as title favourites, Liverpool know they are capable of outgunning Guardiola's side - they beat them 4-3 in the league at Anfield in January before a 3-0 victory in the Champions League quarter-final, first leg. "Liverpool could run Man City real close".

Shaqiri and Sturridge were the two Liverpool replacements to stand out and they combined for their third goal on 87 minutes, with the former Stoke City winger dinking a subtle cross over the Italian defence which Sturridge glanced inside the post. Brazil's number one, who impressed with his performances at the World Cup finals in Russian Federation, will take over the gloves from Loris Karius, who made two mistakes in the Reds' Champions League final defeat.
