Smoky air from blowing winds is nothing new in California, but air quality experts say it's rare for the dirty air to linger for so long, a reality of ever-larger fires that take longer to extinguish. He also faces sentencing enhancements for arson of multiple structures.

Two firefighters have been injured.

They do similar work to any firefighter, working long hours and sleeping in camps with other inmates.

Teresita Reyes was among some 20,000 people under evacuation orders, saying she was attending a wedding Wednesday when she received the order to evacuate.

Volunteer Fire Chief Mike Milligan told the Orange County Register that Clark was screaming in the community and sent an email that said "this place will burn" last week.

Thanh Nguyen, a spokesman for the fire crews said: "Our main focus this afternoon was getting everyone out safely".

And another shows a helicopter flying low over the flames to make a water drop.

Ziggy Torok and Starla Affatati watch helplessly Thursday as the flames of the Holy Fire close in on Torok's home in the Rice Canyon neighborhood of Lake Elsinore, Calif.

"I was asleep, I had two earbuds in", he said.

Spectacular footage captured at the scene of a California wildfire has laid bare the scale of the Holy fire disaster as well as the size of the operation being mounted to combat it.

Even though fire crews have made progress against the biggest blaze in California history, officials said the fire won't be fully contained until September.

"These conditions will increase the likelihood of extreme fire behavior as well", the US Forest Service said.

Clark refused to leave his jail cell Thursday, so his arraignment was postponed until Friday.

Milligan, who has known Clark for two decades, was the one to receive the text from Clark that said "it's all going to burn".

When asked if he knew how the fire started, Clark said he had no idea.

Elsewhere in California, there are twin wildfires north of San Francisco.

The mechanic's death came as firefighters across the state continue to battle more than a dozen wildfires that have scorched more than 600,000 acres, bolstered by an extremely warm July and years of drought that have left underbrush ripe to burn.

Clark spoke to a stringer photographer with OnScene outside his cabin, insisting he had nothing to do with the fire.

Onlookers are silhouetted against the reflection of a wildfire burning in the Cleveland National Forest in Lake Elsinore late Wednesday. Other major fires, such as the Ferguson Fire burning near Yosemite, have also wreaked havoc.

The steep terrain was making it hard for fire engines to get to some of the flames, so the major weapons against the blaze are the aerial water drops, officials said.
