Everton brought in three new faces on the final day of the Premier League transfer window, swooping for Brazilian midfielder Bernard from Shakhtar Donetsk and Barcelona players Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes.

Barcelona can buy the centre-half back for around £30m if he does well at Goodison but, for now, he is an Everton player.

Barcelona said they reserve the right to buy Mina back, while Gomes has cost Everton a £2m loan fee.

Manchester United is also eager to sign a center-back and had settled on Mina but the Red Devils have now shifted their focus to Leicester City star Harry Maguire.

Fulham also made some potentially smart signings, with Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Argentina worldwide Luciano Vietto arguably chief among them - the latter joining on loan from Atletico Madrid with an option to buy.

"I chose Everton because of all the things I had heard about Marco Silva and after speaking to him I was happy with what he said to me", Bernard told the club's wbesite. This is a great opportunity for me and I am looking forward to competing here.

"The manager made me feel confident about playing here".

This is not an unusual clause, particularly involving clubs from La Liga, but does mean that the Premier League side face the prospect of losing the 23-year-old should the Catalans believe he has considerably improved.

"All those we signed showed me they really want to come". I have spoken a lot to the coach and I know his passion for Everton and determination to be successful.
