Tottenham vs Liverpool: Spurs without Alli and Lloris for Reds clash

Newcastle United's English defender Jamaal Lascelles has a header saved by Tottenham Hotspur's French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris during the English Premier League football match

The Spurs boss said yesterday the France World Cup victor will remain as club captain despite his conviction this week and even though Lloris admitted he would understand if it was taken from him.

Lloris admitted being more than twice above the drink-drive limit when he was stopped by police in central London last month.

Pochettino said that "of course" Lloris would remain captain, explaining: "He's the first that regrets everything". He said he was guilty and responsible.

"Everyone can make a mistake, he made a mistake and he is suffering".

"Of course we had a conversation and he explained all that happened", said Pochettino.

"Of course, anyone can make a mistake".

"It is a massive lesson for everyone - he said 'gaffer, it is a massive lesson for me". Only we need to try [to ensure] that he understands and he understands that it was a mistake.

When asked whether Lloris had offered to give up the club captaincy, Pochettino said: 'He apologised to everyone.

Pochettino said: "He already knew that it was a big mistake. Now, because he is clever, he learns and he is going to move on".

Tottenham manager, Mauricio Pochettino spoke at a press conference and with Sky Sports specifically about the upcoming matches against Liverpool and the Champions League fixture against Inter.

It means the Frenchman's deputy Michel Vorm is set for an extended spell in the team and is likely to play in the glamour games against Inter Milan and Barcelona in the Uefa Champions League, while Alli is also expected to miss Tuesday's tie with the Serie A side.

Goalkeeper Lloris sustained a thigh problem during last month's 3-0 win at Manchester United, which meant he missed the subsequent 2-1 loss at Watford and France's worldwide commitments over the past week. "I did. Rather than congratulate him, people need to thank me".

"That's why the expectations and perspective are completely different to another player".
