Hurricane Florence churns through the Atlantic

Hurricane Florence, the Category 2 storm heading straight for my parents' SC house, has the country on high alert.

The space agency released footage showing what Hurricane Florence looks like from space on Wednesday, as states along the coast brace for what experts are saying will be a devastating impact.

"Hurricane Florence may now be dipping a bit south and hitting a portion of the Great State of Georgia", he wrote. Outer bands from the hurricane were lashing land on Thursday, at least a full day before the National Hurricane Center expects the slow-moving storm's eye to blow ashore around the North Carolina-South Carolina line.

The hurricane, which has already caused several Week 3 college football games to be rescheduled, postponed or canceled, is expected to make landfall sometime this weekend.

Terrifying as the situation is (I am regularly checking on my folks, who abandoned Charleston for the highlands of North Carolina), there is a silver lining.

To show the size and power of the storm, a number of photos taken Monday from the International Space Station and astronaut Ricky Arnold show Florence's girth as the storm churns across the Atlantic Ocean.

Hurricane Florence, a powerful Category 4 storm, could stall upon reaching the Carolina coast and make a slight shift south toward SC once it makes landfall, becoming "a major flooding event", according to Fox News Senior Meteorologist Janice Dean. It's chilling, even from space.
